Update #5 l Protein Problems !

My hair does NOT like protein at all! My last wash day I decided to use the Aphogee 2 minutes and left it in my hair for 5 minutes which is the max. Once it was rinsed out my hair did feel strong but was kind of rough. I used a moisturizing deep conditioner right after and when I rinsed that out my hair felt hard! It was horrible. It was difficult to detangle and just didn't feel any where close to moisturized. So for my recent wash day, which was yesterday, I decided to use a protein leave in instead hoping maybe it would turn out better. But NO! My hair felt hard again and rough. My hair just doesn't want any protein and it needs it being that it is color treated. I'm trying to figure out what I can use that is protein and my hair wouldn't react so horribly. Maybe it's just the Aphogee hair line because I do know that once your hair gets back into shape you are suppose to no longer use Aphogee products, correct me if I am wrong though. Anyway I'm going to start my pre poo sessions again and probably use coconut oil being that in penetrates the hair shaft and also helps make the hair stronger so it can probably alternate as a "protein".

How can I incorporate protein into my regimen so I can keep the balance?

  1. I've had to give up hard protein also for this reason. I am relaxed and color-treated. I mix a teaspoon of my choice of a light protein conditioner with my staple dc. I found this to be the best way to infuse protein without it becoming an overload. You can try ceramide oils (ex.hemp oil) or EVCO they are said to strengthen and condition the hair. Perhaps you can add oils to your fave dc. I know our hair definitely needs protein, but I am more concerned with making sure it stays moisturized. Aphogee may be too concentrated for your already healthy hair. I wasn't able to use Aphogee products long because of the reasons you've mentioned.

  2. I'm going to have to give that a try mixing a protein with my dc or just mix in evco. I think I'm caught up on the protein cause I just can't come to an understanding that my color treated hair is "healthy" lol. But I'm laying off the aphogee for sure. What light protein do you use btw ?

  3. I use Motions CPR Conditioning Treatment. Sometimes I dc with this only, but most times it's added into my moisture dc. I sure hope you find a way that works for you. Being relaxed and color-treated is difficult when you need hair help. Your hair seems healthy to me, an outsider looking in. I say keep it moist and a decent protein treatment once or twice throughout your relaxer cycle should work.

  4. I think I'm just going to add coconut oil or avocado oil & work my way up to using actual protein products. Idk but for now I'm not worrying about protein to much. Also my hair is natural & color-treated.

  5. Great idea! Yea, for me protein is the least of my concerns. Oops, didnt know you're natural. Even still healthy color advice is few and far between. Keep us updated on how the addition of oils goes.

Umm, Hey ?!

I  have not written a post in over a few months now & I feel a little okay about it. I just was not in the mood to really write about hair. It just started to become repetitive & a little boring to me. Don't get me wrong I still plan on documenting my hair journey & I still enjoy everything hair related. It was just a moment for me that I was kind of over it. I have been enjoying my hair length & been using heat a little too much, but that's okay. I mean isn't that the point of reaching your goal length, to enjoy it in whatever way you want? Well I definitely did & now it's time to get back to my normal hair routine. I still have a long term goal I want to achieve. So let's see where I go from here. This is my small space on the internet & I don't plan on abandoning it any time soon.

Hair Length Check In

I can not believe how far my hair has come. My hair has been in a protective for half the year, which was a sew-in. I did not have a sew in for the summer I gave my hair a break. I am currently debating if I should get another sew in for the colder months that is coming but I am not sure. My hair feels fuller & thicker. I was even asked if I had a weave in lol. Here is my current length. Am I Mid-Back length ? This picture was taken in Oct/13  Here is my current length as of Oct/14

Giving Weave A Try | Update

I have been thinking about changing my hair a lot recently from the color to deciding if I want to relax it. I just been bored with my hair and I have been trying to do as many natural styles but its either I can't do it, doesn't come out right or it doesn't look right on me. I don't want to manipulate my hair anymore. I'm done with experimenting with color on my own hair and I don't want to continue putting heat on my hair just to cause damage. Soooooo I been thinking about trying out weave? I been looking into it for awhile but now I'm doing my research on it. I don't see any harm in getting weaves what so ever. I can color it and put heat on it I can also pick different textures. Only thing that's holding me back is that awkward feeling of people knowing your actual length and then the next day your hair is down your back lol. But I can get over it I think. This would be a great protective style and I'm hoping it can last for at least 3 months...
